Hooks and Swivels

Sea fishing hooks and swivels are the only piece of tackle which comes into direct contact with the fish, and they are of crucial importance when aiming to catch. Sea Fishing hook manufacturers produce a bewildering range of hooks using processes such as chemical sharpening, which means that even moderately priced sea fishing hooks are of excellent quality.

A sea angler only really needs a small selection of carefully chosen hooks when targetting fish around the coast of the United Kingdom. Here at Billys Fishing, we have hooks to cover all angling situations any angler may come across when targeting species either on shore or in a boat.

Choosing the correct size of hooks can be a daunting process for the inexperienced angler, so here at Billys Fishing, we have a team of experts on hand to make that process as simple as possible.

As a starter, when selecting a fishing hook always select by the gauge. The Gauge refers to the thickness of the wire the hook is manufactured from. Heavy gauge hooks with a thick measure are for catching big fish, whereas small light hooks for catching smaller species will have a much thinner gauge.

When sea fishing selecting the correct hook size is of vital importance. Choosing a hook which is too large will result in bites missed as a fish will not be able to fit the baited hook into its mouth.

By selecting a hook which is too small will bring some further problems: striking will not see the hook point driven into the mouth and bites are likely to be missed as the hook may bend, snap or otherwise fail if it is not big and strong enough to handle a large fish.
